Monetizing Your Blog

There is a new button to the right on my blog.  It's to LinkShare.  It's a company that helps other companies advertise.  Did you know that when you click on these buttons (like on the right side of my blog), they are actually generating money for the blog owners?  It's called being an affiliate.

I started being an affiliate a few years ago because I wrote a post about how much I love Mountain Rose Herbs.  They are the best herbal company I have found with the highest quality herbs and their goal is to provide the best product at a great price and I have NEVER been disappointed with their products.  Trust me, I have ordered A LOT of herbs.

So as I wrote my glowing post of them,  I thought,  I'm basically giving them free advertising - sending people to their site for them.  Do they have a way of compensating me?  And the answer is, YES!  That is why I have a link to Mountain Rose Herbs on my blog.  So if you order herbs (or any of the other amazing products they have) and you click through my site.  I get a 15% referral!  Not bad, eh?  So I started investigating other things I love like Amazon, Emergency Essentials, Starwest Botanicals, Tattler Reusable Canning Lids, and the like.  They are things that I love, and if you click through my site, I get paid, just for spreading the word.

If you're interested in doing the same thing, click through to LinkShare and set up an account.  It will only take a few minutes and then you can apply for companies and products that you love.  Putting a button or banner on is easy peasy, just copy and paste! Most companies go through companies like LinkShare. You can often go to the site you like and at the bottom will be a link for "affiliate", and it will give you the details on how to sign up with them.

So if you have friends that have blogs with buttons and you know you're going to go buy something from Amazon or another of the companies' buttons, consider clicking through their blog, it doesn't cost you anything to help them out! I won't be offended if you want to click through mine =D
