I'm due to write another post for the Latter-Day homeschooling site. I'm thinking about different topics and I'm wondering if I should write about whether you're a mom that is a "doer" or a "relater". I'm wondering if this even makes sense...
Some moms love to plan and create an activity to do with their children, and through this teach their children different principles. I'd classify these moms as "Doers". They would be the ones planning all the fabulous Family Home Evening activities. I'm more of a relater...Planning things overwhelms me, but I love to talk, watch, and relate to my children. I choose to teach by whatever activity we are doing together... So I consider myself a "Relater". (I have to add here that Kent first called me a "Be-er" but I didn't think calling myself a Beer would give the post the seriousness I felt was needed - LOL). Or perhaps you might be a little of both. Or maybe there is another type I'm completely missing!
I'm not really sure about how to put this article together so I'd really love to hear any ideas, thoughts, or experiences that you might be willing to share. You don't have to be a homeschooler to comment, or even a mom for that matter. Thank you so much! I need help!

relater is fine. you are right, it is hard to seriously consider calling yourself a beer. I would think that in your life interaction is vital. I prefer the who montisory way of thought, with providing the opportunities and then teaching based on what comes up. I guess that would be why I don't Homeschool, not enough direction. My kids are fabulous at the planning though.. They constantly come up with projects and I just have to help them.
Ha ha, Beer! Funny.
I think in my mind (my imaginary perfect world) I am a doer. But I find myself a relater most of the time. Taking whatever my kids are interested in at the moment and running with it.
We'll see what changes come about when we start our schooling here at home. I am pretty excited about it all. Good luck with your next article. Can't wait to read it. :)
I'm totally a "relater". But I have to tell you from the comments I've heard from my friends, it's difficult for others to tell whether your a doer or a relater. I've had friends comment on things I've done where it was obvious they thought I had planned things out (I hate to ruin their delusions;)
For example, one time the science teacher for our homeschool co-op had to cancel at the last minute, and I filled in by teaching a lesson about dry ice where they did a few experiments. It looked very "doer" from the outside but the reality was I had to make a mad dash to the store that morning for milk (again-- planning would be very useful), Upon returning to the car my 4 year old noticed a fist size lump of white that appeared to be steaming on the pavement and asked me what it was. What homeschool mom is going to let a perfectly good chunk of dry ice go to waste? I used two old paper cups to retrieve it and took it home to show my kids. They immediately asked what it was made of. (Who knows, that's what the internet is for.) We looked it up on Wikipedia and did a few simple experiments (by simple I mean we only needed water and a spoon). By then it was time to leave for co-op. When I arrived and found that the science teacher wasn't coming, I phoned one of the mom's that was still driving and asked her to pick it up from my back porch.
There are probably a lot of us closet relaters out there, all happily allowing others to believe that we are put together enough to be doers: )
