So Gary the contractor came by today. He wanted to take a look at the inside of the master closet because he had to see how extensive the damage was before he could give a decent bid. So I have some lovely pics for your viewing enjoyment :-) You know when a contractor looks at you with pity in his eyes and offers to talk to your insurance agent for you (who says it's not covered) that there is some bad news coming. 15 to 20 grand is the forecast. That doesn't include the pillars we need built out front so the sagging porch doesn't pull the wall out of Abby and Mimi's room. MONEY PIT! but it's still our home sweet home ;-PThis is of the rotten floor. You can stick your finger through in some places it is so rotten.
This is catching the standing water in the ceiling. Great!
As he is pulling out the insulation it is actually pulling off pieces of the studs .
Hmmmm, structurally unsound?
Here Jimmy is showing us the tar paper that is on the back of the outside siding.
And lots of rain in the forecast. They tried to stem the flow on the roof. I'll guess we'll be waiting anxiously for the sun to stick around to dry things out a bit!

Oh Jenni I am so sorry. . .What a mess! Are you going to live under construction like so many of the other families in the ward? Or will you wait a little while to do repairs?
I still say go for the Extreme Home Makeover. Or call Oprah. I'm so sorry for your woes, but glad to see you can post about it. That's healthy for sure! (As opposed to you sinking into depression and becoming monosyllabic.) =)
What a bummer! Water damage is not fun. We hope it gets better.
Jenny, that is terrible. I'm sure if you don't plan on eating for the next few years, you'll find a way to pay for it...Jeannie
PS I agree with the Extremem Makeover idea!!! hehehe
You win! I thought my house's have been a challenge, But I have never been able to pull the wall out on the inside to the tar paper. I have a bathroom floor that is totally rotten, but my husband does not want to know about that yet. I have to finish the present projects first right?! Think of all the things you are learning as you go along! And I am definately learning from your disclosed experiences. Thanks for sharing!
